Fine Line Rulers

by Carol Olson of Accents in Design

Short-arm, mid-arm, long-arm, and home sewing machine quilters complete straight line designs with ease! With the "Fine Line" you don't have to shy away from stitch-in-the-ditch or cross-hatching anymore!

The underside of the ruler base is scored with 1/4" and 3/4" lines from both edges of the ruler. You have an ability to line up your previous stitching line and stitch either 1/2", 1", 2", and 2-1/2" line designs from any position you place your ruler. There is a "resistance" strip placed on the underside of the ruler keeping your ruler in place while you are stitching. The resistance on your quilt top is all guided by the control placed by your fingers, not the pressure you place on the ruler. The control is evenly distributed across the ruler with your fingers on the finger grips. This allows your quilt top to easily glide underneath your foot and on top of your ruler base or sewing platform for home machines, delivering accurate line designs.

The "Fine Line" ruler base is 1/4" thickness and is 2-1/2" wide. By transferring the ability to control the ruler with your fingers using the finger grips, you will ease tension in your shoulders while quilting, the placement of your fingers on the ruler is a natural position for your hand and your arm.

You can easily outline a block with "stitch in the ditch", or outline your patterns within your block and continue on in "free-motion" without ever breaking your threads.

When applying a light, even pressure with your thumb and index finger, coupled with the "resistance" strip on the underside of the ruler you remain in control of your straight line designs. Simply changing the position of your hand, placing your index finger and ring finger on opposite sides of the finger grips gives you the ability to achieve horizontal line design accurately.

The difference between the Fine Line Quilter's Ruler and the Fine Line Applique Ruler is the grip on the bottom that prevents the ruler from sliding. The Applique ruler has a 'softer' grip so that if you forget to pick up the ruler and slide it over the fabric to move the ruler, it will not catch or pull up any Applique or specialty stitches.
